Today, Recycle Rhonda came in to talk about composting. We learned about the compost FBI: Fungus, Bacteria, and Invertebrates. Recycle Rhonda brought some friends with her, Bernie Bacteria and Fran Fungus, to play a game with the children. Here are some videos of the game. Before Recycle Rhonda left today, we played a game that had us naming items that could be put in the compost. We also looked through some actual compost to see what sort of critters you would find in the compost.
Tomorrow we will learn about worms!
This week we began telling stories in our writing books. Children are currently representing their stories through drawings.
We have also been learning about how some words are short and other words are long. We completed an activity that had us sorting long and short words. We also have been hunting for long and short words in our morning message and shared poem this week. Have your child find a long and short word in the book you read to them tonight.
In math, the children learned how to play a new game called Spill Five Beans. In this game the children shake five beans, count the red beans and record that number on their recording sheet. This is a great game that focuses on number writing, subitizing, and working on 1:1 correspondence.
