Learning more about Butterflies!

After reading the story Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert, we looked at the wings of the butterflies in the story. The children were introduced to the word symmetrical after they noticed the wings were the same on each side of the butterfly's body. Then, the children created their own symmetrical wings by only painting half of a butterfly. Next, they folded their butterfly in half and created beautiful symmetrical wings!

The children also created another project that involved them illustrating the life cycle of a butterfly using pasta. First, they drew the milkweed plant in the boxes. Once their pictures were completed, they glued on pasta pieces to resemble the different parts of the life cycle of a butterfly.
