The First Day of School!

Despite the hot temperatures, the first day of school was fantastic! The children did an amazing job (and were so patient) learning new routines in our classroom and throughout the school. We did a lot of guided discovery (a focused, purposeful, yet playful technique I use to introduce materials, areas, and activities) throughout the day. Some of the areas around the school that we did guided discovery included the cafeteria, the playground, the bathrooms, and the hallways. We also did a guided discovery on using markers (listening for the "click" sound when putting the cap on and how they are meant to be used).

After completing the guided discovery on markers, all the children drew their First Day of Kindergarten Picture. Check your child's backpack tonight to find the picture and ask them what they drew. They worked very hard on them and look beautiful!

This afternoon we read the story The Kissing Hand and shared how we were feeling this morning when coming to school. Then, the children completed the first part of an activity centered around this book. Hopefully, they will be bringing the projects home to share with you on Friday in their folders.

Below are pictures that were taken during various times of the day today. Enjoy!
