Symmetry
Part of our Monarch Butterfly unit, we learned that butterflies have symmetrical wings. We read a book titled Seeing Symmetry and saw many examples how nature and animals have symmetry. As an extension to this book and discussion, the children created symmetrical butterflies using a butterfly template and crayons. This activity demonstrated that everyone understood the word symmetry as their butterflies were not only beautiful, by symmetrical, a hard concept to understand.
