Spiders and Ladybugs

In the beginning of October the children created calendar pieces for this month: spiders and ladybugs.  Then, we created several patterns using the spiders and ladybugs.  After, the class voted for the pattern they would like to see on the calendar this month.  The pattern that received the most votes was a ABBA pattern.

In the Our Month in School chart we are tracking the weather for the month.  So far we have had a lot of cloudy days!  We are also continuing to count the days we have been in school using links.

Last week, the children were introduced to a new math station: Which Bug Will Win?  The core focus of this lesson was learning that mathematicians make predictions.  This game has the children making predictions (exploring probability) to which bug wins based on a specific spinner they are using.  In this game, a child spins a spinner and marks a box above one of the bugs (spider or ladybug) to show the results.  He/she continues to spin and record until one column is completely full.
