Our math stations are up and running! The children have been busy exploring geoboards, polydrons and bugs. They have been also creating numbers using play dough and making balls to match the numbers and also creating numbers with Legos at another station. One of the stations has the children rolling a die and finding the numeral on a worksheet that matches the number of dots of the die and coloring that particular numeral in. Using dice are not only fun to use, but also a great way to build subitizing skills!
A new station that was introduced this week is an activity that has the children working on subitizing skills along with practicing writing numerals 1-6. In this activity, the children spin the spinner, count the pumpkins (or instantly recognize the quantity...this is subitizing) and recording the numeral on their worksheet.
In one of the lesson's that was taught last week, the children created quilt squares using triangles out of construction paper. Then, we created an ABAB pattern with the quilt squares. Next, the children participated in a turn and talk to share what they noticed. After, we shared what we noticed with the class.
