What is a label?

What is a label? The children learned this week that a label helps the reader know more information about the picture. This was our focus this week in writer's workshop. On Monday the children learned what a label was and then labeled the parts of a bee. On Tuesday they had fun labeling me (this is something they could do at home with you or another family member)! On Wednesday, the children learned how to label themselves in their pictures by using the word me, which also became our new sight word of the week. Many of the children used this technique in their writing that day, which was very exciting! On Friday, we looked at some examples from the children showing how they are labeling their pictures. Some of the children even began labeling other people and things in their pictures. If your child is drawing a picture at home, encourage him or her to do some labeling!
