Apples, Apples, Apples

On Friday we tasted 3 types of apples (Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, and Macintosh). Then, we created a graph showing what our favorite apple was. After, we analyzed our data by sharing what we noticed about the results. We noticed that more children liked the Golden Delicious apple than the other two apples. We also noticed that only one child liked the Granny Smith apple and five children liked the Macintosh apple the best. The children then transferred the data to their own graph, which was sent in your child's Friday Folder. Ask them what they noticed about the graph.

We also did a little experience with predicting how many seeds were in a big red apple, a small red apple, and a green apple. Once our predictions were made and written down, we cut each apple open and counted the seeds. We found that the small red apple had the most seeds! Then, we observed the star in the apple and drew our observations. During explore time, the children had fun apple stamping. Though, the stars were not coming out as clearly on our paper as we had hoped.

The children also completed an art project that had them creating the seasons of the apple tree, which was based on the book The Season's of Arnold's Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons. This project required a lot of cutting, but it was a great fine motor activity! See if your child can tell you what happens to the apple tree during each season.

During our tech time this week, the children used the Paint Program and drew something they liked about apples. Many of use liked picking apples and eating them.
