Leaf Eaters
On Friday we had our first Four Winds workshop, which was presented by our fabulous volunteers, Kelley Anderson and PJ Zimakas. This year's theme is Ecosystems and Friday's workshop focused on Leaf Eaters. A puppet show, a highlight for the children, was put on by the volunteers. Through the puppet show, we were introduced to some leaf eaters and learned what a habitat, carnivore, and herbivore were and how the source of energy is used through food chains through an ecosystem.
After the puppet show, we sorted leaves by the different patterns of leaf feeding(hole eater, edge eater, roll leaves into tubes, mine). Then, we did an activity where we saw how plants and animals in an ecosystem are connected in food chain. We also had a chance to go outside to look for and observe various leaf eating patterns. Tomorrow we will draw and record patterns of leaf-feeding leaves in our journals.
