We've been practicing using scissors, walking in a line, listening and following teacher directions, sitting (not laying) during our times on the rug, moving from one activity to another, and solving small problems with peers.
In the coming weeks, we'll be slowly rolling out academics. It's really important to focus on building our classroom community so that we can all access to learning, treating others with kindness, and having fun!
This week the children are being introduced to Number Corner, which is a component to our math program. In number corner, the children are introduced to the calendar. This month, our calendar pieces are focused on 2 dimensional shapes (triangle, square, circle, rectangle). In addition to the calendar, the children also work on counting using the number line. We will also be keeping track of how many days we've been in school using a number line and ten frames.
We kicked off Our Hopes and Dreams discussion by reading a book called Brontorina. In this story, Brontorina, a dinosaur, has a dream of being a ballarina. Throughout the story she perseveres and eventually she becomes a ballerina. After the story, the children shared their hopes and dreams. As you can see, they are non-school related 😃. On Friday, we will talk more specifically what they hope to do and learn while in kindergarten.
Some pictures from our first 4 days!
