Land of Pumpkins

Today, we visited the pumpkin patch and we had a great time!  Thankfully the weather cooperated with us and it wasn't too cold or muddy.  The children loved going through the corn maze.  For many, this was their first time in a corn maze.  Each group had to find 5 checkpoints within the maze along with a Jackpot, which the children each received a token, which could be traded in for a piece of candy.

After the corn maze, we learned about pumpkins and what they need to grow.  We also learned about the different types of seeds used to grow different types of pumpkins.  We also saw a very large pumpkin with a painted face.  The children helped to find out how much the pumpkin weighed by measuring it's circumference.  We learned it weighed about 321 lbs!

The children each picked a pumpkin to bring home.  In our read aloud today, we learned the lines in the pumpkins are called ribs.  I told the children to go home tonight and count how many ribs their pumpkin had.

Also, make sure to ask your child what their favorite part of the trip was.
