Migration

On Friday, we had another Four Winds workshop, which focused on bird migration (a new vocab word).  We learned that birds migrate at night following the stars, the setting sun and/or bodies of water.  We also learned another new vocabulary word: flock.  Ask your child to tell you what this word means and see if they can give you an example of a type of bird that flies in a flock.   Did you know that Humming Birds fly by themselves when migrating to Costa Rica?  This was another fact we learned during the workshop.

After the puppet show, the children had to decide if a bird would migrate or stay here in Vermont during the winter months by knowing the type of foods it eats.  We also played a game using pasta pieces and reading facts showing the migration path of a Humming Bird from Vermont to Costa Rica.
