In March, we learned a lot about maple sugaring through read alouds and our field trip to the Audubon Center. One of the activities we did in class was creating a maple tree picture by tearing construction paper into pieces and forming a maple tree with our pieces. We added a sap bucket and a few details. After, we wrote a sugaring poem using our 5 senses and our experiences from the Audubon Center.
We also focused on how the sugarbush and maple trees change from season to season. We looked at many books noticing what animals were active during each season and how the maple trees change. As an extension to this activity, the children illustrated maple trees for each season and also added realistic details for each season (animals, plant life, colors of the leaves, etc.). Take a look at the children's beautiful artwork!
