Life in the Dirt

On Friday, another Four Winds workshop was put on by our wonderful volunteers. Life in the Dirt was October's topic! We learned all about the complex ecosystem of soil. In the puppet show there are four things that make up soil: air, water, rocks and minerals, and dead leaves, roots, and grass. We also learned that worms make tunnels to hide from predators and bring air and water to the roots. After the puppet show, we explored one of soils efficient decomposers: The Worm! The children were thrilled to examine worms up close both in the classroom and in the garden. One of the fascinated things we learned about worms is that they don't have eyes or a nose and they breathe through their skin.
