Rotting Logs

Posted by Picasa

Rotting logs was today's topic for our Four Wind's workshop. The professor (PJ) came into the classroom with his time machine that allowed us to see what happens to logs in nature in 4, 8, and 12 years of decomposing. We learned that after 12 years, rotting logs turn into soil, which helps new tress grow. Like Alex said "It's a life cycle!".

During the puppet show, we were introduced to some organisms and animals that live in rotting logs. After the show, the children had a blast explore rotting logs. They had fun tearing them apart to try to find living creatures. They also observed what their log felt like and the holes that were in their log. Ask your child what kind of creatures they found.

Thank you Kelley, PJ, Julia, and Kathy for another fun filled workshop!
