What is a Number Tree?

This month in Number Corner (the calendar component to our math program), the children were introduced to the term number tree.  In the kindergarten program, the number tree is used to decompose numbers into 2 smaller groups.  Using number trees, also helps the children to see that a number can be broken into multiple ways.  For example 4 can be seen as 4 + 0, 3 + 1, 2 + 2, 1 +3, or 0 + 4.
