The First 6 Days of Kindergarten

Our First Class Picture!
It has been a busy 6 days of kindergarten!  We have been learning how to be safe, be kind, and be responsible throughout our day and what it looks and sounds like in many parts of our day including using the bathroom, eating lunch in the cafeteria, playing on the playground, sitting on the rug during morning meeting, playing with our new friends, etc.  The social curriculum will be our main focus the next 5 weeks and will continue throughout the school year as we work on cooperation, problem solving skills, and how to be a kind friend.

We have had lots of opportunities for read alouds and have completed several follow-up activities to our books.  Below are some of the books we read and activities we completed.

Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten

After reading this book, we had a great conversation about discussing the similarities and differences of the classroom in the story to our own classroom.  As a follow-up activity, the children drew how they got ready for kindergarten.

Ally-Saurus and The First Day of School

This book was a great way for the children to see how we can celebrate our unique imaginations and appreciate what each friend has to offer.  After the read aloud, the children used their own imagination and drew themselves as something they would enjoy coming to school as.

I Like Myself
This was a great book that allowed us to appreciate everything about ourselves.  After this read aloud, we each shared what we liked about ourselves.  Then, we drew self-portraits, which will be displayed at our Curriculum Night.

We also did guided discovery of using scissors.  We learned and practiced how to be safe and responsible with the scissors.  The children practiced cutting straight, curvy, and box lines.  Even though it seemed hard, they tried their best and did a great job!

Below are some pictures from the last 7 days.  Enjoy!
