Learning about Erosion

On Tuesday, we had our wonderful Four Winds volunteers come into the classroom on Tuesday to teach us about erosion.  We learned that erosion is caused by wind and water.  The children participated in three different activities that had them discovering how wind and water play a part in erosion.

The children also played a game called Rock and Roll, which had the them predicting what would happen when a jar of rocks, with clean water, was shaken.  After everyone had a chance to shake the jar, we examined the jar and noticed that the water was murky and there were some small pieces of rocks that had come off from the larger rocks.

The last activity of this workshop had the children making predictions of what they thought would happen when water was poured on some mulch that was weighed down by rocks and also poured on mulch that was weighed down by leaves.

Have your children share with you one new piece of new learning from this workshop.
