On Wednesday, we traveled to the pumpkin farm to learn all about pumpkins. We first began our learning by looking at some pictures that were taken from the pumpkin field in the spring when we had received all the rain. After, with the help of some parent and children volunteers, the life cycle of a pumpkin was acted out. We also got to see some real live pumpkin vines and flowers. We learned about the importance of the scarecrows and what could damage the pumpkins throughout the season. The last part of our trip was tasting different pumpkin foods, which included pumpkin apple sauce, pumpkins seeds, puree pumpkin, pumpkin dip, and pumpkin cookies. Finally, the children were able to pick a bumpkin or munchkin pumpkin to bring home.
Ask your child the following two questions:
1. What was your favorite pumpkin food that you tried?
2. What was one thing you learned about pumpkins?
