Reading Words
Last week in Readers Workshop, the children began learning about some beginning reading strategies. They learned they could read sight words fast, in which they got a lot of practice doing! They also learned that they could look at the picture (Eagle Eye) and look at the first letter of the unfamiliar word (Lips the Fish). During each lesson, the children had many opportunities to apply what they had learned to their own reading. These are strategies that can used when they are reading books from their reading bags as well.
We also focused on reading smoothly and not sounding like a robot. Fluency plays a huge part in reading and it's important for your child to practice reading smoothly, which may require your child to read the same book multiple times so that they can work on their fluency.
This week we will be finishing up this unit by make a really cute digger with an emphasis on words we know. Stay tuned for pictures!
