Birds

Last Friday, we had another wonderful Four Winds workshop, which was focused on Birds.  During the puppet show, the children learned about the different adaptations birds use (webbed feet, camouflage, loud voice to scare predators, waterproof feathers, etc).  Ask your child what adaptation they would like to have if they were a bird.

The children participated in a few activities.  In the first activity, the children examined different type of feathers.  They sorted the feathers into flight, contour, and down and had a discussion about which feathers would keep a bird warm or which feathers would be a good for flying.  Next, we ventured outside and did a follow the leader style game where the children were flapping like several different birds including geese, hummingbirds, and hawks.

The children helped fill up a few bird feeders around the school yard and lastly, they enjoyed a tasty bird's nest treat.  Below are a few pictures from our workshop.
