100th Day of Kindergarten!
We celebrated the 100th day with lots of activities, including playing Race to 100, making 100th Day Glasses, writing what we'll be doing in 100 years, to making a yummy snack mix of 100 food items. In addition, we also counted by 1's and by 10's to 100. Take a look at the video showcasing our fun filled day.

Groundhog Day
Before the arrival of Groundhog Day, we read a few different books about this day. After a little discussion about what it meant if the groundhog saw his shadow or if he didn't see it, the children made a prediction of what they thought the groundhog would see and wrote about it. Take a look at their cute groundhogs!
| No the groundhog won't see his shadow because I can see grass. |
| Yes the groundhog will see his shadow because I want him to see his shadow because I want to ski more. |
The lantern parade was such a fun event that the entire school community was part of. The children were so excited about their lanterns and the parade! That's all they talked about on Wednesday! They did a great job creating their lanterns and it was so wonderful to see all the families the night of the parade.

Valentine's Day is so much fun to see in the eyes of a 5 or 6 year old! The excitement of giving and receiving valentines is priceless. The children couldn't wait to peek inside their valentine's bags! We also created heart mosaics where the children tore paper and glued onto a heart shaped piece of paper. In their hearts, the wrote 5 things they loved. They are hanging beautifully to the entrance of our classroom.

Writer's Workshop
The children are continuing to write true stories with a beginning, middle, and end along with focusing on making their writing readable. They have also learned that some words you don't have to stretch out, that you just know in a snap, such as many of our sight words posted on our word wall.
Math
The children have been introduced to coins, particularly nickels and pennies. They have learned how much each is worth and are beginning to understand that 5 pennies are the same as 1 nickel. The children are working on this concept through one of their math stations titled: Race to 15 Cents, which was also sent home in your child's Friday folder this week.
We have also been reviewing 2D shapes, including circles, rectangles, squares, triangle, rhombuses, hexagons and trapezoids. We have been using attributes to describe shapes and to sort shapes into groups.
Snowmen at Night
After reading the book Snowmen at Night, the children thought about what they would do at night if they were a snowman. So, for this project they created their own snowman picture, which look amazing, and wrote about what they would do if they were a snowman at night. Their pieces are displayed in our classroom.
