A Celebration of Writing

Last week we finished up our first unit of Writer's Workshop: Launching the Writer's Workshop.  Looking at the children's writing from September to now, they have become such strong writers.  They have learned how to tell a story across pages, how to stretch out words and use letters to represent words, and incorporate detailed pictures.  The children have also learned the importance of partners and how their partner can help them make their writing even better.

Last week, the children picked a story from their folders, one they wanted to "fancy" it up, or in other words, to edit.  They went back to their story, added details to their pictures, words to each page, including talking bubbles, and color (they were so excited to finally be able to color their pictures!).  Their work is amazing and I'm so proud of how much they have learned and applied to their own writing!

After the Thanksgiving break, we'll be begin a new unit: Writing Pattern Books to Read, Write and Teach.

Below is a video showcasing our celebration.  Each child picked their favorite page of their story to share with the class.
