The First Two Days of Kindergarten!

Our First Class Picture
(though we are missing one friend so we'll take another one next week)

The first two days of kindergarten have been great!  The children have learned so much about our school including our school rules:  Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Responsible.  They have learned about warm buzzies and how they are earned.  Ask your child about the warm buzzies.

We have done a lot of guided discovery (where I model the expected behavior and then the children practice) of areas of the school and with materials in our classroom.  We have learned about being safe, kind, and responsible in the cafeteria, on the playground, in the bathroom, and on the bus.  We also learned how to safely use scissors and practiced our scissor cutting skills today.

Yesterday, we read the book The Kissing Hand, by Audrey Penn.  This is a great book for the beginning of the school year, especially for those children who are feeling nervous or sad about starting kindergarten. After reading the story and discussing how Chester felt, we shared how we were feeling about the first day of kindergarten.  Then, we created a class graph and shared what we noticed about the results.  We noticed that most children were happy about their first day and nobody felt sad or scared.  Next, the children drew a picture of how they were feeling.  The last part of this activity was having the children complete a guided drawing activity of Chester, the raccoon, who was one of the main characters from the book.

Below are some pictures from the last two days.  Have a wonderful weekend!
