Celebrating Groundhog Day

Last Friday, we read a book titled Go to Sleep, Groundhog!, which is about a groundhog who should be hibernating, but is awake during the winter months.  He finally is able to fall asleep (in January) and wakes up on February 2nd, to find out that he sees his shadow and declares 6 more weeks of winter!

As an extension, the children created groundhogs and predicted if the groundhog would or would not see his shadow on February 2nd.  We analyzed the graph and noticed that 7 children predicted he would see his shadow and 8 children predicted he would not see his shadow.

Lastly, the children wrote about their predictions.
