On Friday, we became focusing on families, which includes looking at the different holidays families celebrate. The children shared what they thought a family was. Some of the responses were the following:
"Families spend time together."
"Families give hugs and kisses."
"Families travel together."
"Families can have a mom and a dad."
"Families love each other."
As part of our family theme, Ari's mom came into the classroom to talk to us about Hanukkah, a holiday they celebrate with their family. She shared with us the menorah and how it was used during the holiday. We enjoyed a yummy treat (sugar cookies made into stars, menorahs, and dreidels). She also read to us a wonderful Hanukkah story titled Latkes and Applesauce: A Hanukkah Story. After, we had fun learning how to play dreidel. We found that spinning the dreidel wasn't as easy as it looked, but we had enjoyed playing the game!
