Making 5, Exploring Force and Motion, and the Super Bowl

This week in math, we explored multiple ways of making 5 by creating number trees using cubes.    This was a great lead into a new game that would become a new math station.  Fives Up is the name of the game and in this game, the children take turns finding 2 cards to make 5.  Click here to see videos of the game being played.

I put some ramps, tubes, and balls out for the children explore this week.  Without any teaching, the children immediately began exploring the concept of force and motion with no guidance.  We will be exploring this topic in more detail in the near future.  Click here to see a video of the children exploring the materials.
