The children were very curious and excited about the applesauce as it cooked all morning and part of the afternoon. They couldn't wait to taste it! All the children tasted the applesauce. Some LOVED it, others said it was okay, and there were a few who decided they didn't like it after their first taste test. Ask your child what they thought of the applesauce.

Yummy Applesauce!
On Wednesday we made applesauce using the apples that the children helped pick at the orchard. They helped prepare the applesauce by cutting the apples into chunks using butter knives. Many of them were so surprised that they were using a knife to cut the apples and all the children were anxiously awaiting their turn to help cut up the apples. Once the apples were cut, we had a discussion about what else we needed for the applesauce. We ended up adding a little water, some sugar, and cinnamon. Then, it was time to cook it (we used a crockpot to make our applesauce).

We also read two different books, a fiction book and a non-fiction book, that were about making applesauce. We had a brief discussion about the two different books and how they were alike and how they were different. We also wrote a how-to make applesauce writing piece as a class.
