"Doing something you never did before."
"Making things and trying things out."
"Discovering something you never discovered before."
"Discovering new things underground."
"Finding dinosaur bones underground."
"Learning about different creatures."
"Seeing things you never seen before."
"Learning about stuff over and over."
"Learning about the world."
After, I showed them a Powerpoint presentation titled What is a scientist?. In the presentation, the children were introduced to many different types of scientists such as engineers, doctors, marine biologists, botanist (a person who studys plants). Once the presentation was done, the children drew what kind of scientist they wanted to be. In their drawings, they needed to include tools they would use. Ask your child what kind of scientist they want to be! Below you'll find the pictures the children drew.
On Friday, we conducted our first experiment: Water as a solid and a liquid. Before we got started, the children shared with a partner what they thought was the same and different about water and ice.
"The ice got smaller and smaller."
"The ice floated up."
"The ice melted."
"The ice went above the water."
"It made ice water like you would find in a restaurant."
After, the children recorded their observations in their journals.
